Easy White Bread for Beginners

Ready to give breadmaking a go? Here's a simple white bread recipe for beginners, made easy in a stand mixer.

What you'll need:

  • 500g strong flour
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 7g dried yeast
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 300g water

How it's made:

  • Attach a dough hook to your stand mixer.
  • Add ingredients (flour, salt, yeast, oil, water) into the mixer bowl.
  • Mix on speed 1 for 2 minutes, then on speed 2 for 8 minutes. 
  • Ensure the dough is flexible and homogenous. 
  • Cover with a tea towel and leave to prove for an hour, or until doubled in size.
  • Transfer the dough from the mixer bowl to a lightly floured workspace. 
  • Gently pull the edges into the centre. 
  • Roll the dough over and make into a loaf shape. 
  • Place the dough into the proofing basket/loaf tin, making sure the seal is placed on the top.
  • Cover with a damp tea towel. 
  • Leave to prove for an hour or until doubled in size.
  • Pre-heat the oven to 220 C.
  • Place a small oven proof container filled with boiling water in the bottom of your oven. 
  • Remove the tea towel and spray the dough with salted water.
  • Bake for 25 minutes at 220 C or until the loaf sounds hollow when the bottom is tapped. Leave to cool.
  • Serve.
