Looking for a mouthwatering appetiser or side dish? These French Onion Stuffed Mushrooms are packed with caramelised onion goodness and topped with melty cheese for a savoury treat that's sure to impress.
What you'll need:
- 1 onion (large, thinly sliced)
- 1 tsp sugar
- 5 tbsp thickened cream
- 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese
- salt and black pepper (to taste)
- 2 tsp thyme (8 fresh sprigs)
- oil for brushing on mushrooms
- 1/8 tsp nutmeg
- 12 button mushrooms
How it's made:
- In a large pan, add sliced onions with sugar and a pinch of salt.
- Cook on low until the onions caramelise and turn amber brown, about 10-15 minutes.
- Add cream and nutmeg, and mix well. Remove from heat.
- Fold in thyme, set aside.
- Clean mushrooms then remove and discard stems. Brush with oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper.
- Mix cheese with the onion mixture and stuff a generous table spoon in each mushroom.
- Heat the air fryer to 180 degrees C and cook the mushrooms in a single layer (working in batches) for 8-10 minutes, or until mushrooms are cooked through and stuffing is golden and bubbling.
